Rotator Cuff Injury (Strain or Tear)

What is a Rotator Cuff Injury?

A rotator cuff injury can be strains (muscle pulls) or tears of one or more of the four muscles and tendons surrounding the rotator cuff.

Cause of a Rotator Cuff Injury?

These injuries can be the result of prolonged and repetitive overuse of the rotator cuff from activities such as throwing (ball or racquet sports), lifting weights or other heavy objects, or reaching overhead, to name a few. Rotator cuff injuries can also result from trauma to the shoulder from contact sports (such as hockey, rugby and football), falling on an outstretched arm or a motor vehicle accident.
